I’m a journalist and author based in England. I spend far too much time looking at and thinking about men.

I’m credited with/blamed for coining the term 'metrosexual' in an essay in 1994 in which I predicted, with terrifying accuracy, the future of masculinity was moisturised. Though of course no one believed me at the time.

Adding to my crimes, in 2014 I introduced the world to the 'spornosexual' - second generation, body-centred, ‘Insta’, self-objectifying metrosexuality.

I’m the author of several critically-acclaimed books, including Male Impersonators, Metrosexy and Saint Morrissey.

The global cool-hunting website Science of the Time has described me as:

“The world’s most perceptive – and certainly the wittiest – writer about masculinity”.

I can’t disagree.

The Times of India included ‘metrosexual’ in their review of the most important words of the last thirty years, commenting:

“Much has been written about metrosexuals, but no one has done it as well as the man credited with coining the term, Mark Simpson.”

I have written for far too many publications around the world, including The London Times, Arena Homme Plus, Playboy, Out, the Seattle Stranger, the Telegraph, the Guardian, the Financial TimesVogues Hommes International, Attitude and Details.

Some of them are even still going.
