Thanks to James Kean for drawing my Lycra-wrapped attention to a new video from Irish cultural comedian Frankie McNamara, the sociology student scallywag who previously brought us the sharp and funny video critique: 'The Skin Fade and North Face Jacket Combo', which I wrote about here.
'Gym Bros' is perhaps not quite as good, and perhaps pathologises our barbell brothers too much, but definitely still has its moments:
'Gym bros eventually build up the lactic acid to get over their ex and start posting progress pictures on Instagram for other girls to notice them. But all they usually end up getting are DMs from middle aged men asking to buy their socks.'
And he even offers a kind of summary of spornosexuality:
'Gym bros build up their bodies for fixating on the male gaze of physical attraction yet often resort to fixating on their physical attraction to the male gays and refusing to come out as bi.'
I would assume from these two videos that Frankie is at least a bit bi himself and is implicitly acknowledging this and mocking his own rationalisations. Or at least I would hope so.
And as previously, McNamara has managed to find some good-humoured young men to present themselves as examples of his scathing commentary. Though I expect the most sporno specimens at his gym refused to collaborate - unless there was a 50/50 revenue split.
At the end, as with ‘Skin Fade’, the lads mock-chase him down the street. Maybe in the next video we will see what happens when they catch up with him.
But that would be on Only Fans instead of YouTube.
